Seiko Kinetic
In Japanese language the word Seiko means “success” which is a fitting name for the Seiko Company, for the simple reason that they are one of the leading watch makers in the world. The company was founded more than a hundred years ago and have been a pioneer in the watch making field. One of the techniques Seiko pioneered is kinetic technology. This led to the creation of Seiko kinetic watches. The interesting thing about kinetic technology is that it is a difficult technique to duplicate which means Seiko has a monopoly over this technology.
It was in 1988 when Seiko introduced the kinetic watch. Although it was not until 1992 when Seiko started to call their watches kinetic. In its early stages there was some troubleshooting required to make kinetic technology a feasible product. However the clever brains at Seiko managed to get past the hurdles and make kinetic watches a commercial success. After this, there was no looking back for Seiko kinetic watches.
So what makes kinetic technology so desirable? The main reason behind Seiko kinetic watches success is that kinetic technology has energy independence. This means that it does not need a battery and does not need to be wound up. It is a clever technology where the watch “taps” into the hand motion of the wearer to produce the power necessary to make the watch function. The precision of the watch will be as good as a battery powered watch without the hassle of buying batteries. The only catch is that if the watch remains dormant for long periods of time, it will stop working. To get it working again is easy, just wear it and when the watch detects movement it will start up again.
The advantages of a Seiko kinetic watch is easy to see. They are easier to take care of, and because there is o battery, it will not have to be opened up to replace batteries. When a watch is opened for battery replacement, dust particles can enter and it can also damage the water seal. With a Seiko Kinetic watch these problems no longer exist.
