The Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive is the only kinetic watch that has the added benefit of a winding crown, where the name Direct Drive comes from, and it not only shows the reserve power but the level of power generated by the movement of the wearers movements or from winding. It actually shows the electrical power transfer from the wrist or the winding to the reserve with a direct drive hand that starts moving when the winding starts. If the winding is gentle the hand only moves a little but if the winding is fast enough in long strokes the hand jumps across the indicator dial like the tachometer of a car during acceleration. Because of this direct connection between the wearer and the watch the Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive was named emotional technology. A bond is formed by the owner to the watch.

In the redefined Seiko Sportura line the Kinetic Direct Drive is the showcase model. The red and orange highlights on the black dial are still there as is the non reflective sapphire crystal but there are new designs. This is the first use of Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive in a Sportura model. This is an extremely accurate watch with accuracy within one second. It is also water resistant to 100 metres. There is a power reserve indicator that tells you how much power you have and if needed there is a restyled, for the Sportura, winding crown to boost the power.

It is possible to add power for a month, a week, one day and there are indicators that show exactly how many hours of power are remaining. There are models for men and ladies with black leather bands as well as stainless steel. Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive also comes in the Velatura collection designed for mariners and the Premier collection that has a slightly more formal look.
